The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. (Psalm 23:1-6 ESV)
God, help me to follow you as the shepherd of my life, realizing that apart from you I am lost. When I am exhausted and empty, help me to follow you to places where my body is rested and my soul is refreshed. When I am afraid and overwhelmed, help me to find courage knowing that you are walking with me through the valley, comforting and strengthening me each step of the way. When I am tempted to sin, help me follow you in paths of righteousness. You see my heart and you know that it has a natural disposition to turn away from you, but overflow my life with your grace and the power of your Holy Spirit that I may deny myself, take up my cross daily, and follow you (Lk. 19:23). Amen.
